                                         REMEMBERED WITH HONOUR

The following provides a brief summary of what we know about the 14 men from Broad Town known to have died serving their country during the two World Wars. All are recorded on the role of honour in Christ Church, Broad Town and all died in the First World War with the exception of Horace Ockwell who died in World War Two. The information is based on research carried out by Clive Green supplemented by information gathered by Andrew Law from the Commonwealth War Graves and documents such as census records from Ancestry. In this data there are omissions, misspellings, errors, contradictions, inconsistencies all of which make it difficult to confirm the true facts. Any clarifications or further information would be most welcome.

Each of the 14 men have their own poppy wreath placed in a prominent position along Broad Town Road in the week leading up to Remembrance Day. The wreaths outside Church Farm and East Farm mark where Charlie & Percy Chesterman and Nelson Maskell lived. Charlie Townsend & Jim Manners lived in Cotmarsh so their wreaths are placed at Broad Acres. Richard Morris lived in Broad Town Road so his wreath is placed opposite #33. Frank Comley and Horace Kinch lived in Thornhill so their wreaths are next by the Church. Arthur Miles, Horace Ockwell, William Edwards, Tom Merritt & Tom Simpkins lived in Broad Town village so they line the road to the Pye Lane Chapel lane cross road. Willie Comley lived in Snowhill so his is the last wreath.
